Provides a robust and stable pool structure.

Can be a significant and attractive addition to your home.

Versatile Finishes:
A wide range of interior finishes can be applied, allowing for different aesthetics and textures.
Concrete Pool Installation Process
The entire process can take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks or longer, depending on the complexity of the design, weather conditions. It’s essential to work with an experienced and reputable pool builder to ensure a smooth and successful installation.
Phase 1: Design and Permitting
- Consultation and Design: You’ll work with one of our pool professionals to discuss your vision, needs, and budget. This leads to a detailed design plan that considers your property’s layout, desired features, and local regulations.
- Permitting: Once the design is finalized, the process of obtaining the necessary permits from your local authorities begins.
Phase 2: Site Preparation and Excavation
- Layout: The pool’s outline is marked on your property using stakes, ensuring accurate placement.
- Excavation: Equipment is brought in to dig the pool. Excavated soil is either hauled away or stockpiled on-site, depending on your landscaping plans.
Phase 3: Construction
- Forming: A network of concrete forms and steel reinforcing bars (rebar) is installed. This provides strength and stability to the concrete shell.
- Plumbing and Electrical: Before the concrete is applied, all necessary plumbing lines for water circulation, filtration, and any water features are installed. Electrical conduits for lighting, pumps, and other equipment are also put in place.
- Concrete Pour: This is where the pool’s floor and shell are formed.
Phase 4: Finishing and Installation
- Tile Installation (Optional): Decorative tiles are often installed at the waterline and can also be used to enhance the pool’s aesthetic appeal throughout the interior.
- Coping & Decking: Once the concrete shell has cured, the pool’s coping is finished, which provides a border around the pool. The decking around the coping of the pool is installed (concrete, pavers, natural stone, etc.) creating a usable and attractive pool surround.
- Interior Finish: The interior surface is then prepared for the final finish, which can include ecoFINISH, paint, plaster, an aggregate finish (like pebble or quartz), or tiles.
- Equipment Installation: Pumps, filters, heaters, lights, and other pool equipment are installed and connected.
Phase 5: Final Steps
- Filling and Start-up: The pool is filled with water, and the chemical balance is adjusted. The pool equipment is tested to ensure proper operation.
What Finish is the best pool finish?
Epoxy Paint:
Pros: Most affordable option, limitation on colors available.
Cons: Shortest lifespan (typically 3-7 years), not UV-resistant, can be slippery, requires cure time.
Best for: Budget-constrained situations where longevity isn’t the primary concern.
Plaster:
Pros: Provides a classic, smooth look, various colors available.
Cons: Least durable option (typically lasts 5-10 years), more prone to staining, discoloration, erosion, and fluctuating PH water chemistry, can become rough over time, requires more frequent maintenance and chemical balancing.
Best for: Budget-conscious homeowners looking for a traditional appearance but be prepared for more maintenance and a shorter lifespan.
ecoFINISH:
Pros: Durable (lasting 12-20 years), highly resistant to staining and chemicals, PH neutral with users reporting a reduction in chemical usage, a cost-effective pool finish that provides excellent long-term value through its durability and reduced maintenance needs.
Cons: Requires specialized equipment along with certified professionals to install.
Best for: Those seeking a balance of durability, smoother texture, and wide range of color options.
Quartz & Pebble Aggregate Finishes:
Pros: Durability (often lasting 12-20 years), resistant to staining and etching, pleasing appearance.
Cons: Higher upfront cost, more susceptible to chemical imbalance leading to deteriorated surface, over time will become rougher to some swimmers.
Best for: High end, varied color options.
Tile Finishes (Porcelain, Glass):
Pros: Highly customizable designs, very durable, non-porous, and easy to clean. Glass tiles offer a unique, vibrant look.
Cons: Most expensive option, installation is labor-intensive and requires skilled professionals, can be prone to chipping or cracking.
Best for: Homeowners seeking ultimate customization and a high-end with a significant budget.

Awesome service ! Thank you

Spoelstra Pools is where you go for a lifetime investment. Tim was wonderful at managing the project and my wife and I. He always asked what we wanted first, then would offer his perspective on what others have done based on their 60+ years of experience. The pool and hot tub is over built so you can use it continuously with low maintenance. Concrete Pools (and hot tubs) are so much easier and for a family that likes to entertain we definitely made the right choice in Spoelstra. Thanks for a smooth process, an amazing pool, and our family memories.

Pool remodel in East Grand Rapids, Mi. We did a complete remodel which included sand blasting, skim coating, new paint, new lines, new electrical, and new cement all around the pool. Spoelstra Pools exceeded my expectations by a mile. We let them know in the spring that we were moving forward with our pool remodel and it was completed by the end of July. They have set the bar very high and we have had several home projects in the last year and not one contractor compares in meeting our expectations like Spoelstra did. Keep in mind that they are completely booked right now and it is their busiest time of the year. So if you need a pool or a remodel call them.
